Last week was hectic and my head is still spinning, so I’m keeping the post short this week and sharing a few of the things that I’m loving at the moment.
I go through phases of loving pizza and then not being that fussed about it. When I do want pizza, I think homemade is best in terms of taste. I make my pizza using a wholemeal spelt base. It’s a simple dough that takes only ten minutes to make, and it has a nutty flavour and bread-like texture that I just love. I find it so much more satisfying than the thin white bases of most shop-bought pizzas. I top my pizza with a tomato and garlic sauce, mozzarella and chargrilled chicken.
Book: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
I heard great things about the television adaptation when it came out last year, and I was going to watch it, but I wanted to read the book first. For some reason television spoilers don’t bother me at all, but I can’t stand book spoilers. This book is so well written and so sharp. I’m reading it slowly so that I can savour every line. It’s a real demonstration of writing as a craft, with every word used to its maximum potential.
Song: Make Me Feel by Janelle Monáe
This is such a feel-good tune. It’s the kind of song that I can put on repeat and not tire of. It makes me smile and it makes me want to dance. I like to start the day with an upbeat song; it energises me and makes me feel that anything is possible.
That spring feeling.
I crave sunshine and warmth. The only positive thing about winter is Christmas, after that I want to skip straight to spring. We’ve had a few days this week that have been sunny and mild, and it feels like a promise of good things to come. I can almost taste those long summer days where you wake up to sunshine, go out for a run whilst the air is still cool, and you just know that it’s going to be a beautiful day. (I’m trying to ignore the reports that suggest another cold snap is on its way just in time for Easter.)
Mickey Mouse t-shirts.
I treated myself to a couple of new t-shirts from Uniqlo. I don’t buy clothes too often, and my wardrobe is still filled with items from over ten years ago, so I felt like I could justify buying something new. I love these two t-shirts. Their bright colours put me in a good mood, the quality is great, and they were a reasonable price. Plus, I can just throw them in the wash—no fancy instructions—which is always a bonus!
